A few days before Halloween Walmart put their big pumpkins on clearance for $1.25 (these were the same pumpkins that we paid almost $4 for the week before...) For some reason I got the bright idea that buying pumpkins and cooking them up would be much more economical than buying canned pumpkin during the holidays to make pumpkin pies, pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin crisp and other pumpkin goodness.
This little project took much longer than I anticipated, especially since I started late in the day and once Austin went to bed I could no longer run the blender. So it became a 2 day project.
I now have lots of pumpkin in my freezer. If I ever get this bright idea again, I'll only do 1 pumpkin instead of 2.

You are so ambitious! I made those turkey bows last year! They sold really well, so you should have good luck with them. I love Austin's Halloween costume!
Wow! that was only 2 pumpkins? It looks like 20!!!!!!
totally impressed. what's your recipe for a fresh pumpkin pie? is it the same as on the back of the can? i LOVE pumpkin pie, but worry that real pumpkin might not taste as good.
I am still playing around with the recipe. I found one on allrecipes.com but I think it has too much spice to it. I don't like nutmeg, ginger or cloves, and I could taste too much of those, so I need to try again with much less spices than the recipe calls for.
