Nascar Camping World Truck Series - Las Vegas Oct '11

Since it is just about time for us to head to Vegas for the big Nascar weekend, I figured it was time to get the pictures posted from our last trip in October for the Truck Series race.

We had pit road passes again.

This is Austin standing in the pit for Kyle Busch Motorsports.

The Indycar Championship was being held that weekend as well, so we got to see some Indycar practice time.

Brian Ickler was driving for KBM again this year.

Last year, Austin got to meet Brian Ickler and have his picture taken with him. Then our camera broke and I lost all the pictures from that trip. We were lucky enough to meet him again this year and get his autograph. Last year he was just passing through but this year, we were right outside his trailer and no one was around so we got to stand and chat with him for a bit. Very nice guy.

We got autographs from some other drivers too, including Max Papis.

We happened to be standing right there when the SPEED channel was doing their pre-race show and had a live interview with the points leader Austin Dillon (who also happens to be a favorite of ours.)

Then Austin got to meet him. Here he is getting his autograph. He wrote "Austin, I love your name! Love Austin"

He did go on to win the Truck Series championship.

Drive introductions - We knew to sit exactly where we did last year so we could be right there where the drivers walk by for driver intros. Austin got to hi-five every driver on their way down. Here comes Brian Ickler.

Getting ready to go green

Sadly, this very spot is where Indycar driver Dan Wheldon was killed the following day during the Indycar Championships. I was going to get tickets to that race and didn't at the last minute. Austin ended up throwing up all night so we were sitting in our hotel room watching the race when the wreck happened.

A nasty wreck happened in the same spot during the truck race, resulting in a red flag, which is when they park all the trucks on the track, as seen below, until all the debris can be cleaned up.

Ron Hornaday was our winner.
