Last week

I just can't seem to find the time to update the blog very often these days as a lot of our time on the computer is spent looking for work. Here's a little peek into what our week was like last week.

The week before, Austin had a very good week at school - glowing reports every day - so we told him as a reward he could use the $5 that Grandma Dees sent for Valentine's Day and we would take him to Walmart to pick out a new Dr. Seuss book. We finally made it to Walmart on Monday, but not before counting the money in Austin's piggy bank to see if he'd have enough for 2 books. As it turns out, this kid has more money that we do, so he was able to take $10 to Walmart. He picked out Put Me In The Zoo and instead of getting a 2nd book since they were so picked over, he opted for an M&M Nascar. Austin was very pleased with Kyle Busch's win in Vegas last Sunday and now he is quite excited to be able to pull out his own Nascar while he watches the race. His car didn't do so hot this week, but he enjoyed the race anyway. And he's decided on a Nascar birthday - meaning he wants me to make him a cake in the shape of an M&M Nascar....

Tuesday was a nice sunny day, so we went for a drive out to the airport so Austin could see the planes. (Think small town here - we are not talking International airport here- MUCH smaller than the Hayward airport.) We did get lucky enough to pull up right as a guy pulled his plane out of the hangar and took off. We didn't get a picture of him, but we did get this:

Wednesday was my baking day. I've realized that I just don't have enough time in the mornings to cook breakfast for Austin, and I'd prefer for him to have something like french toast or waffles before school as opposed to cereal or pop tarts. So on Wednesday I did some major multi-tasking and made enough waffles and french toast to put in the freezer to last us for a month. While I was in the kitchen, I figured I might as well cook up a large pot of macaroni & cheese and hot dogs (a weeks worth of lunch), 2 dozen cupcakes (to freeze and pull out for quick snacks) and slice up all the carrots and celery for easy-to-grab snacks. I will definitely be doing this mass breakfast cooking once a month now.

Thursday & Friday I was babysitting the 3 month old again. This week went a little better as I tried to put her on a schedule. Austin was such a great helper. It made me so proud to see how nurturing he was toward her and how much he wanted to help me out. Of course, having a baby in the house brings up a lot of questions from a 4 year old - like "When are we getting one Mom?" He told me it's taking a really long time. Believe me, no one is more painfully aware of how long it is taking for us to be able to add on to our family than I am. One day, we will have better insurance and steady work. Until then, we are greatful for the blessings our Heavenly Father has already given us.

Another interesting turn of events last week - I was invited to join the Carson City Symphony. This is a big deal to me since I no longer have a steady group to play with since the Fallon Band went on hiatus. I am hesitant about making this kind of commitment though.

1. Carson is an hour away and they practice once a week.
2. We really don't know week to week how much longer we're really going to be in Nevada.

However, it's not everyday that the president of a symphony calls me and begs me to be in their group - so I will give it a shot tomorrow night. I am most nervous about the 2 1/2 hour rehearsals as I've played a total of 10 minutes in the past 3 months. Also, this music will be a much higher caliber than I've been playing here, so I might actually need to (gasp!) practice. Practicing has never been a priority to me - not in HS when I fibbed on practice records, not in college when my roomates were practicing 8+ hours a day and certainly not since then. So if you happen to think of me, say between 7pm - 9:30 Wed night, say a little prayer that my lips will hold out.

The next couple of pictures are just for fun. Sunny loves his tennis ball and often I'll find him just sitting, holding it in his mouth. I was trying to capture a side view showing just how far open his jaw is in order to hold on to the ball.

This weekend we were lazy around the house ALL wekeend. In fact, I don't think I left the house at all from the time I picked up Austin from school on Friday until I took him back Monday morning. (Stake Conference will do that to you.) Don found this craft in a kids magazine and we had all the materials laying around so we let Austin make it. It's a treat jar for dog treats. Now Austin has his own special jar to feed the dogs treats from. We'll probably need to be very specific with him that they can only have 1 or 2 treats a day.

Last but not least, we keep getting snow. It snowed twice last week and again Monday morning. I took this picture yesterday morning when it first started snowing. I have a random onion plant coming up from last year. I can't decide if I should put the time, money and effort into a garden this year if we might not be here to reap the rewards of it.

That got long! Hope everyone is having a good week!

Just to tell you I don't think I know anyone that actually practices their instruments. *I certainly don't... like EVER*
