CC Symphony

So I suppose I'm officially a member of this group now after my first rehearsal Wednesday night. It wasn't too bad and the drive wasn't too bad either. Kind of nice to just crank up the radio and be by myself for a while. I also was able to run into Costco before rehearsal. Now that I've discovered Carson City (yes I've lived here for 3 years and never gone to Carson) I'm not sure I'll ever need to go to Reno again. Carson seems to have everything I need without the busy-ness of Reno.

About the rehearsal - it wasn't too bad. I met a bassoon player who is 92 years old and still playing. And he's good too. I can only wish that I'll still be playing my oboe when I'm 92. The music wasn't too bad. The 1st oboe player was not there, which meant I had to sight read her solos in front of everyone. Sight-reading is probably my weakest area - so sight-reading a solo with 5 sharps in a constantly changing meter was a real joy. I surprised myself with how well I did and I didn't have an anxiety attack, so maybe I'm growing as a musician. At any rate, sight-reading is good for me - or at least that's what I try to tell myself.

We have a concert in April and it's nice to be playing orchestra music again (as opposed to band music - yes - there's a huge difference).
