Emergency Room Visit

Friday night Austin was running and playing in the sprinklers in the front yard when he slipped and fell. He cut his leg open on something. He said it was a stick or a rock. I was around the corner when it happened so I didn't see exactly where he fell. We think he probably cut it on the sprinkler head or the Beware of Dog sign in the front yard. I took him inside to clean up the blood and get a better look and he said it wasn't hurting him - but I could see that this cut was going to need a little bit more than a bandaid. We took him to the ER, which conveniently is about a 20 second drive for us. We don't have a minor injury clinic here, so we had to go to the ER. The nurse said he definitely needed stitches.

While we were waiting to be taken to a room, his leg didn't hurt him a bit. It was when they started to numb the area that the problems began. I've never had stitches before, so I didn't realize how grueling of a process it is to numb the area. He screamed bloody murder from the moment they began the numbing until we walked out the door. Even after he was numb (they assured us he was) he continued to scream that they were hurting him.

He had 4 stitches total and the nurse even gave his Giraffe 2 stitches. They need to be removed in a week. Hopefully it's not as horrible when he gets them taken out, but I'm not sure he's going to let any doctor anywhere near his leg at this point.

Getting stitches out is a whole lot easier that putting them in. Putting stitches in is like poking a needle through leather. Getting the out is like a hot knife through warm butter. Trust me, I've got plenty of stitches.

Poor Austin! I don't blame him for screaming! I hope they are easier to take out.
