Immediately upon returning home from Oregon, I had to leave for California to play Gloria up on Temple Hill. I was not able to attend the rehearsals, so Bro. West gave me the music before hand. I show up for the dress rehearsal and I was informed that I didn't have the right music. I was supposed to be playing 1st oboe with a bunch of wicked solos. It might not have been a problem had I been able to attend the rehearsals, or if I had the right music at home to practice.
God Bless choir conducts, but could you pay attention to the orchestra once in a while? There was one particularly wicked oboe solo which I completely blew the 1st night when Bro. West started conducting in 4 and it was supposed to be in 5. I was even more excited when he completely stopped conducting all together. (note the sarcasm here.) 2nd night was ok. I might even go as far to say that it was decent. 3rd night, blew it again. He is VERY hard to follow. What made it even more wonderful was that the composer was in the audience that night. It was lovely. I'm sure he choked during that particular number. I would have to say, it was definitely not one of my finest performances.
I was a little sad afterward, saying goodbye to everyone and thinking that would probably be the last time I play at Temple Hill. With Temple Pageant suspended, there's no reason for me to go play there anymore.
I took this shot of the Temple, but the picture doesn't really do justice to how beautiful all the lights really look:
