I have put off posting about our trip to Las Vegas last month because the new (read: expensive) camera that I bought freaked out and we have lost all the pictures from the race. I am devasted and have been working with Kodak and SanDisk to try to recover them. So far to no avail...
So for now, I'll just have to write about it while it's still somewhat fresh in my memory - and hopefully one day I'll be able to recover the pictures.
We got free tickets to Nascar Camping World Truck Series. It also happened to be the weekend of my 30th birthday. So we went. And it was A-MAZ-ING!
When we parked the car in the parking lot at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Austin got out of the car and said "Mom, I just love it here!" And that was just the parking lot!
We got pit passes, which means we got to go down to the garages and out to Pit Road during qualifying. We were RIGHT THERE watching the drivers get in their trucks and speed off of pit road for qualifying!
Unfortunately Kyle Busch was not racing for Camping World that weekend. He was in Delaware racing for the Nationwide Series that same day. But he has his own racing team for the truck series, and his back-up driver, Brian Ickler, was driving. And it was the first time with the M&M sponser on the truck! And, did I mention that Austin got to meet Brian? He even got his M&M racing hat signed. We even got a picture of the 2 of them together. (This is where I would have posted that picture if it hadn't been lost...)
Fast forward to race time - we're sitting in the stands waiting for it to being and they start roping off our section and not letting anyone in or out. Next thing we know, they are announcing each driver and they came down through our section on their way down to the track. We were sitting RIGHT THERE. Austin got to shake hands with every driver before they got in their trucks. Amazing!
I took a ton of amazing pictures during the race. Our 2nd favorite truck driver, Austin Dillon, won the race. He smoked everyone. Rookie drive and only his 2nd win. Then we found out that our pit passes allowed us to go down to victory lane. It was really cool to be right there in person for something that we watch on TV every week.
We can't wait until we go back in March for Nationwide and Sprint Cup!!
Instead of driving down to Vegas on Saturday and driving back on Sunday (6 hour drive), I decided to ask for Monday off work. So Sunday we spent the day on the Strip. It was so freaking hot outside. It was only 106, but this was the last weekend in September for crying out loud! We went to Joe's Crab Shack for my birthday dinner. And we did a LOT of walking. Of course, we went to M&M World to see Kyle's car. Saw the lions at the MGM, the fountains at the Bellagio, the pirate show at Treasure Island. I got in a fight with a Chinese lady in the arcade at Circus Circus. Did some shopping, had some good eats...
All in all, it was a fabulous weekend and a MUCH NEEDED vacation away from Fallon. We got home just in time for crap to hit the fan at work. I should have taken the whole week off.
Oddly enough, a handful of pictures did turn out. Just not the important ones. None from the race or our pre-race activities on pit road, but we got a couple from Victory Lane and a few from Sunday on the Strip.
